We live in a busy technological world and we are the first generation of parents to i everything children so as a parent and educator, I wanted our home life to be a place to support my daughter's creativity and imagination and hopefully focus less on the TV/iPad!
In 2009, I was teaching 4 year olds in a variety of London schools. I fell in love with the designated writing table that was set up in these classrooms. It was a space to inspire writing/mark making with pens, glue, stapler, scissors, stamps, coloured paper and all sorts of media.
My experiences in Montessori classrooms showed me how you can teach children independence through making their environment accessible so it was really exciting to recreate this same space for my daughter at home, incorporating both these teaching experiences and endless open-ended tinkering/exploration.
OUR WRITING/CREATIVE SPACE CELEBRATES-
- Balance of creativity and technology/TV at home.
- Open-ended creative experiences.
- Independence - 'Self Serve' writing/art resources in her storage trays/shelves.
- Freedom to choose and explore resources for her art making/writing.
- Endless problem solving with materials which encourages our children to be confident thinkers.
COMMUNITY OF CREATIVE MUMS AROUND THE WORLD
Last year Instagram connected me to other mum/educators around the planet who are passionate about supporting open ended creativity within the home. Such an inspiring movement of educators bringing art into our children's lives and homes!

These are just a few of the screenshots I took during 2016 of all the wonderful educators/mums I follow on Instagram and Pinterest. Above are links to their websites. Inspiring quotes, podcasts, new books to read or an 'invitation to create'. Awesome platforms to share imaginative ideas with families and inspire us to provide a space for our children to create!
Hope you feel inspired too!
